Bustling Chinese Economy Impacts Fireworks Production
by admin on Jun.10, 2011, under Industry Trend
Market conditions in China lead to increases in fireworks display pricing.
Not long ago manufacturing for fireworks displays could be managed within American borders. However once China opened itself up to free trade about 30 years ago, it’s been easier and more cost-effective to source materials and fireworks there. And Chinese fireworks production capabilities happily expanded over the years to meet the great demand of global markets. Low prices were a result of China’s inexpensive labor and consistent supply of raw materials fueling demand for inexpensive Chinese fireworks and raw materials. Now demand is at an all-time high.
China has made itself the place to source fireworks and the focus of a booming market.
Now the world economy is changing — and slow bends in the supply chain have created complications for the once-easy market:
· Chinese labor is becoming more expensive
· Raw materials are becoming more expensive
· Costs for shipping are becoming more expensive
So where does it go from here?
It’s becoming increasingly more difficult and expensive to source materials out of China: on top of all of the price pressures mentioned above, within China, domestic consumption of fireworks is also pulling fireworks materials, once bountiful, off shelves and creating export shortages in the short term.
According to industry newsletter “Fireworks Business” author Harry Chang of Black Cat Marketing: “Beijing consumers alone bought nearly 900,000 cartons of fireworks” for the 2011 Feb 3rd Chinese New Year Celebration. “We now have to compete for production capacity with the domestic Chinese market and the competition is yet another contributing factor to higher prices. Oftentimes, factories prefer to work on domestic orders because it’s easier money, as many Chinese customers pay upfront in cash and factories don’t have to worry about having to comply with CPSC and AFSL standards.”
In the coming months and years, show producers around the country will find themselves in a pinch. Prices for fireworks are on the rise, and increases in the cost of shows are inevitable.
With prices on the rise, Pyrotecnico continues its long-standing promotion of best practices:
· The use of technology to offset shortages and manage inventory
· Continuous improvement on creative and modern show production
· Establishing sourcing relationships and buying power
· Practicing safety as second-nature habit amongst all employees
Technology allows Pyrotecnico to produce shows that are increasingly spectacular and impactful. It also gives Pyrotecnico an edge in managing shows efficiently and creatively. With a cross-country (even international) work force that enjoys sharing ideas and creatively solving problems, Pyrotecnico will continue its tradition of creating special shows for any budget, without compromising on bang, style or effect.
